Like all of the different units within the Police Department, the Community Services Bureau has many responsibilities. The Community Services Bureau consists of one supervisor, four patrol officers and three civilian employees (two maintenance men and one secretary) who are permanently assigned to the Community Services Bureau. The members of the Community Services Bureau are responsible for all aspects dealing with motor vehicles. The following are just a few of the things that the members of the Community Services Bureau are responsible for:

TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

Through regular enforcement of traffic violations, it is the goal of the Community Services Bureau to provide safer driving conditions with the City of Rahway. View the Rahway Vehicles & Traffic Ordinances.

ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION UNIT

All members of the Community Services Bureau are qualified in advanced accident investigation. They are responsible for investigating serious accidents that result in fatalities or life threatening injuries.

TRAFFIC MAINTENANCE

There are two civilian employees assigned to the Community Services Bureau. They are a valuable part of the bureau and are responsible for many things, a few of which are the maintenance of street signs, the maintenance of all city owned traffic signals, and assisting the Accident Investigation Unit with traffic control at the scene of accidents.

MOTORCYCLE PATROL

The motorcycles are used for parades, funeral escorts, and other special events, as well as everyday traffic enforcement.

SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS

The Community Services Bureau is also responsible for the hiring and scheduling of all the school crossing guards throughout the city.
